Then spending three nights near Zimbabwe鈥檚 spectacular Victoria Falls, experience this natural wonder and embark on a 鈥淪undowner鈥 Zambezi cruise. Next is Botswana鈥檚 Chobe National Park, boasting one of Africa鈥檚 largest concentrations of wildlife, for a three-night stay featuring sensational boat safaris and game drives. After a privately chartered flight to Zambia, enjoy a tour highlight: unparalleled wildlife viewing at South Luangwa National Park, an untouched region of eastern Zambia along the meandering Luangwa River, with a relaxing three-night stay at the award-winning Mfuwe Lodge. Discover Cape Town, South Africa鈥檚 sparkling 鈥淢other City,鈥 including the Cape Peninsula and Winelands, with an optional 4-day/3-night post-tour extension. 

This tour is rated easy/moderate in terms of physical activity level. A fair amount of walking most days, from 1-3 miles per day. Touring days may include full-day motor coach excursions or extended periods of standing and walking during city tours, museum visits, and/or outdoor activities. Travelers should be able to board transportation, walk over sometimes-uneven terrain including cobblestones, and climb a few flights of stairs, occasionally without handrails or assistance. Elevators are not always available at sights or all hotels.

Itinerary

Please note the itinerary is subject to change.

Arrive in South Africa.

Transfer to hotel and enjoy your first day in the suburb of Rosebank. 

Embark on a tour of the Soweto district of Johannesburg. See the home of former Archbishop Desmond Tutu; visit Nelson Mandela's home and tour the moving Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum. 

Fly to Victoria Falls and our lodge. See the thundering falls, first "discovered" by David Livingstone and claimed for Queen Victoria in 1855.

Embark on a game drive to spot the elusive, and critically endangered, black rhino. Later, embark on a "Sundowner" dinner cruise on the Zambezi where we see wildlife on shore and in the water.

Visit a Victoria Falls town and local village before enjoying an afternoon at leisure. Before dinner, hear from a fascinating guest speaker on "The Story of David Livingstone."

Travel by motorcoach to Botswana and Chobe National Park, boasting one of the largest concentrations of game in Africa. Embark on a game-viewing boat safari on the Chobe River. 

Chobe covers 4,517 square miles of protected parkland, including the world's largest elephant population, along with zebra, lion, giraffe, impala and buffalo. We'll see a portion on an early morning game drive and an afternoon boat safari.

Enjoy another day of early morning and late afternoon game drives. In between, leisurely enjoy the amenities on our lodge on the banks of the Chobe River. 

Board a plane to South Luangwa National Park. Here in one of Africa's last stretches of pristine wilderness we have the chance to get closer to the animals than anywhere else. In the afternoon, engage in an open-vehicle game drive and walking safaris.

Embark on a morning and evening game viewing excursions. Among the fauna living here: lion, elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, giraffe, zebra, hippos, wild dogs, and antelope. 

We have another day to savor life in the bush and engage in morning and evening game viewing. In the evening, we celebrate our wildlife adventure at a farewell dinner. 

Travel to Zambia's capital, Lusaka, where we have hotel day rooms until our departures back to the U.S. in the evening.
